Teary Eyed ~ Avant Garde Look

3 Oct

This was inspired by Petrilude (an amazing makeup artist on youtube, please check him out if you haven’t already!!).  Mine is nowhere near as good as his, and it’s not meant to look exactly like his either.  As I was drawing the tears, I decided to make them look more like tentacles… so I ended up with this crying-dead-sea creature look (could be good for Halloween!) If you think I look like a hot mess, good! That’s what I was going for!

Enjoy!

Note: The makeup was much more sparkly in person, my camera didn’t pick up on it though!  :(

Eyeshadow to Enhance Your Eye Color

13 Jun

Using eyeshadow to bring out your natural eye color is a simple way to make your eyes pop, although picking the right shade can be a little tricky.  Here are some recommendations for each eye color:

Blue eyes: Shades of taupe and light brown really bring out baby blues.

Brown eyes: While brown eyes look good with virtually any color, earth tones generally look the best.

Green eyes: Try plum colors to enhance green eyes.

Hazel eyes: Hazel eyes really sparkle when accented with pink or coral shades.

~An important thing to keep in mind is whether your eyes have a cool or warm tone.  Blue eyes are cool toned, so warmer toned colors usually compliment them (colors with a yellow undertone).  Brown eyes are usually warm toned, so cool toned colors compliment them (colors with a blue undertone).

~One annoying rule I think should be ignored is “don’t wear eyeshadow that matches your eye color”. I personally think this is a great way to draw attention to your eyes, just don’t wear the exact shade as your eye color.  For example, light blue eyes would look amazing with a navy eyeshadow, and dark green eyes would pop with a lime colored shadow.

~If your eyes have multi-colored flecks, try those shades of shadow.  For example, if your hazel eyes have gold flecks, try a shimmery gold eyeshadow to bring out the gold in your eyes.

~Black eyeliner and mascara can look too harsh against blue and green eyes, try chocolate brown instead.  Brown and hazel eyes are actually enhanced by black liner and mascara.

~And when in doubt, consult a color wheel.  This handy artist’s tool identifies complimentary colors and makes it easy to find shades that will enhance your eye color.
