Product Test: LOreal Lash Boosting Serum – Part 3

8 Jun

After two weeks of using L’Oreal’s Lash Boosting Serum I can honestly say this stuff works! I wasn’t completely sure until I compared this week’s photos to the photos I took before I started this experiment (see below).

Check in next week for photos from week 3!

Product Test: LOreal Lash Boosting Serum – Part 2

31 May

After using L’Oreal Lash Boosting Serum day and night for a week straight, it’s still difficult to say if I can see results or not.  I think a few of my lashes may be a little longer, but I’m not sure. They certainly look healthier and well-conditioned though, so that’s a plus.

Check out the photos below and I’ll be back in a week with more shots!

Product Test: L’Oreal Lash Boosting Serum – Part 1

The Product: L’Oreal Lash Boosting Serum.

The Claim: “Get visibly fuller, thicker natural lashes with less lash fall out” … “Apply daily under your mascara and at night to bare lashes to transform your natural lashes, and see more lashes in just 4 weeks!”

The Test: To apply the serum twice a day (morning and night) for 4 weeks, taking photos at the end of every week to track progress.

Here are a few photos of what my lashes look like right now without any product at all.  As you can probably see they’re short, pretty straight, and thin – so if this serum works on my lashes I’m willing to bet it will work on anyone’s!

Review: L’oreal Voluminous Mascara

4 Jul

diary-budget-buys-loreal-voluminous-0409

Packaging: Very classic, black tube with a light gold cap.  Nothing super exciting or eye catching, but classic.

Formula: The formula is excellent.  It builds a huge amount of volume in just one coat.  After a few coats, it does start to get a little thick and clumpy, but the amount of volume you get with just one coat makes up for this. It also lengthens quite a bit and doesn’t smudge.

One thing I noticed with this product is that the formula is more watery than that of most mascaras, it’s almost gel-like because it’s so thick.  This isn’t a bad thing, it just takes slightly longer than most to dry.

Wand: This mascara has a fairly normal wand, it’s on the smaller side which makes it easy to apply the product to the bottom lashes.  The only thing that could be improved is the amount of product that gathers around the bristles.  I feel that if the hole at the top of the tube were smaller, this wouldn’t be a problem.

Price & Availability: Being a drugstore brand, L’oreal’s Voluminous is readily available and at around $10 CND it’s very affordable.

Overall, this product is really awesome.  It really builds amazing volume and it makes it easy to create stand-out lashes.  L’oreal’s Voluminous mascara gets 5/5 stars, it’s a great all around product.

Must-Have Series: Eyeshadow Primer

8 Jun

This is going to be a series of short posts describing products I think everyone should have in their makeup bag. The first in the series is an eyeshadow primer.

Ever feel like your eyeshadow needs to be really packed on to even see the color? Or find that it forms a crease by the end of the day? A primer prevents both of these things and more. It also allows for smoother blending and ensures your eyeshadow stays put all day. A lot of primers are on the pricey side, but there are a few drugstore options as well. Here are a few recommendations:

Too Faced Shadow Insurance:

Urban Decay Primer Potion (my favorite!):

L’oreal De-Crease:

MAC Paint Pots:

To illustrate, here are some swatches. The swatches on the left are over a primer, the ones on the right are shadow alone:
